Tidal Basin Perfection

Taking in the Tidal Basin

Deep breath of cherry blossom

Well they say it is 1 day pre-peak at the tidal basin...seems like the big secret best time to go down to see the show in my opinion. Very few people, a slight breeze, blue skies, sunshine, and hundreds and thousands and millions and trillions of trees all in perfect bloom. Eila and I had a great morning and we went to our favorite secret garden behind the welcoming center at the Smithsonian and visited the most fantastic of all trees...the Weeping Higan Cherry in the Moongate garden. We did some serious taking it all in today. How refreshing- I LOVE SPRING!!!!

Silly Eila and the Blossoms

Eila got all excited about the discussion we were having about cherry blossoms today and I lost track of what she was saying...but took this clip of her which is very cute and silly. Although I cannot do a full translation for you, I do know she is saying something about the cherry blossoms! Enjoy! (We have just survived something like the flu, so excuse me sounding like a frog in this video)

Japanese blossom time!

Typical Eila- being silly

Visiting the stables on the way home

We are celebrating the cherry blossoms now ...I cannot believe its been a year already! Eila will be 2 in a few days! We went out to see some of the show of flowers at Kenwood- a neighborhood nearby where EVERY STREET is lined with pink blossoming trees. Its is gorgeous. Eila and I ate frozen lemonade today and enjoyed the sunshine together. She loves to say "Japanese" and "Cherry Blossom" and "Eila's so silly" and to please me she says "Mommy look- forsythia!" because I love it so much when the bright yellow bushes bloom. We are finally beginning to see the glint of true Spring now and the end of a VERY VERY VERY long and snotty, coughing, yucky Winter. Tomorrow we're off to the tidal basin to see the real display in DC!

Springity Dingity Do...

We are in the new house and got buried under our stuff for awhile with the move but we are emerging now to celebrate the Spring. Eila likes her new space a lot and each time we drive near the turn-off for the old house she says, "No Mommy, new house please!". We have had some very special visitors at the new house already with Grandad and Gigi here for the moving from one house to the next (which made the move possible) and then Lily, Sandra and Bobby May from Louisiana here for their second visit to DC (which was absolutely wonderful!). Lauren has been over to make us dinner in our new kitchen and share her boots with Eila and then Carmen came today with her dog Ivy- a special treat for Eila given her dog obsession. Cousins Keya and Cimeren have spent some good time playing in Eila's new playroom since we are now only 2.5 blocks away from them!
